Delrin and acetal are terms often used interchangeably, as they both refer to polyoxymethylene, a type of thermoplastic polymer. However, Delrin is a brand name for a specific type of acetal resin produced by DuPont, which is known for its excellent dimensional stability and mechanical properties. While both materials are widely used in consumer electronics and other machining applications, Delrin offers slightly better toughness compared to standard acetal copolymers.

Delrin is not hard to machine due to its low friction and predictable material behavior, making it ideal for Delrin CNC machining. However, issues like warp can occur if machining parameters such as Delrin cutting speed and tool engagement are not optimized. Using the correct coolant and sharp tools helps ensure smooth and efficient machining without damaging the Delrin material.

The best way to machine Delrin is to maintain an optimal Delrin cutting speed and use sharp carbide tools to prevent material deformation. Applying a suitable coolant minimizes heat buildup, which can compromise excellent dimensional stability during the process. For complex parts, injection molding Delrin may be a better alternative, but for precise machining applications, CNC milling or turning is highly effective for shaping this versatile plastic.
