Properties and application scope of the No.20 steel
This is a quality low-carbon steel and a cold extruded, carburized, and quenched steel, featuring low strength, high toughness, high plasticity, and high weldability, with a tensile strength of 253-500MPa and an elongation ≥24%.
Except for carbon (C) and a certain amount of silicon (Si) (normally less than 0.40%) and manganese (Mn) (normally less than 0.80% and sometimes up to 1.20%) for deoxygenation, no other alloying elements contained (residual elements excluded).
It is called wrought iron when the content of carbon is less than 0.02%, pig iron when the content of carbon is bigger than 2.11% and less than 4.3%, and steel when the content of carbon is in between.
Purposes of the No.20 steel
This steel is applicable to manufacturing automobiles, tractors, or small and medium-sized carburized and carbonitrided parts that are not very important in general machinery manufacturing, such as the hand brake shoes, lever shafts, gearbox forks, transmission, and ring gears on automobiles as well as the camshafts, suspended equalizer shafts, equalizer linings, and sleeves.
It is used to manufacture various mechanical parts that are not subjected to large forces and have high toughness requirements in the hot rolling or normalizing state.
In the heavy and medium machinery manufacturing industry, it is used to manufacture forged or pressed pull rods, shackles, levers, sleeves, and fixtures.
In the turbine and boiler industry, it is mostly used for pipes, flanges, headers, and various fasteners that operate in non-corruptive media with pressure ≤6N/mm2 and temperature ≤450℃.
It is also used to manufacture castings such as crossheads and pistons for railways and rolling stock.
Purposes of the guide shaft carbon steel components
The chrome-plated bar or cold-drawn bar is normally used to perform surface oxidation treatment for the guide shaft. With the main function of guiding, the guide shaft is used together with different components for different purposes.

When used together with an oil-free bush, a guide shaft component that is not thermally treated and has an allowance of f8 can be selected.
For the purpose of revolution, the guide shaft is normally used together with a bearing, synchronous pulleys, and couplings. When the guide shaft is used as a pillar, normally pillar attaching clips, a pedestal, and a fixing ring are used together with it.
The main purposes of the linear guide shaft
- Light-load, short-distance, low-frequency, and low-speed motion in the vertical direction.
- High-speed, long-distance, heavy-load, and high-frequency motion in the horizontal direction.
- Used together with an oil-free bush, a guide shaft component that is not thermally treated and has an allowance of f8 can be hard chrome plated on its surface for surface contact sliding.
